The Great Confession

Chris and I plan to foster to adopt. There. I said it "out loud". It's been a rough year or so for me. I really wanted more children, but we had decided to stop with David. I finally got the courage to talk to Chris about adoption and he was all for it. But, as soon as he said yes, I waffled back and forth over whether it was the right thing to do. There were so many hurdles to jump. How would our families take it? How many people would tell us we were crazy? Were we strong enough to take on more children? We had a lot to work out and I think we came to a satisfactory conclusion for all of us, both near and far. It's a huge step and a little scary for me. I have no idea how long it will take to get a placement and whether or not that child will stay with us. Since we have to foster to adopt, there is always that chance that the family will do what they need to do and we'll have to send the child back to them.

We plan to add on to our family at the bottom, meaning that David will be a big brother. David thinks it's a grand idea. He tells me how he's going to share everything from his clothes, to his toys, to his bed. I assured him that he need not share his bed. Then, he told me that we should get two foster kids! One for him and one for the girls. If only he knew what that really meant!

Chris and I have one more session of classes to take. Then, we have interviews and a home inspection to complete. Barring any unforeseen issues, we should be licensed soon, God willing. I'm getting really excited about it, though.
