Going Out to Dinner

We took the kids out to dinner last night. Chris said he thought I needed a break. It must be all that cooking I'm doing. Anyway, we took them to Friendly's because it's simply a more kid friendly place.

We were seated a booth, which was kinda funny to begin with. I mean, really, there are six of us now. But, it was a large booth, so I'll forgive having to squish in with the kids. The kids were pretty good for the most part. They were all very eager to put in their drink orders. The girls were talking over each other to let our waitress know that they wanted the Cotton Candy (or light blue drink). Meanwhile, Miss A is chiming in with various and sundry chirps of "Pop!" "Li Blue!" "Dark Blue!" "Me! Dink!". We just settled on the dinners when David announces he must visit the restroom NOW!. I'm internally rolling me eyes. We just left the house 20 minutes ago, I was assured by everyone that the bathroom had been visited. Guess not.

The kids settled in with their complementary crayons and paper. That in and of itself was funny because they had this dot to dot squirrel on there. I think Chris and I actually did more of the kids' activities than they did. Ruth is fine with doing dot to dots, but the other three really can't recognize numbers higher than 10. But, Grace was happy to color her deformed squirrel and David and Miss A were happy to let Chris and I color theirs while they watched.

Our meals arrived and it was a flurry of conversation and plain craziness. I tell you what, those kids need some serious work on the so called "inside" voices. And learning to belch with some degree of silence. However, I'd just settle for not attracting the attention of half the dining room. By the end of the meal we were feeling a mixture of elation (we'd almost made it through the meal) and exasperation (that was after David tried to pick up his plate and his nearly full dish of applesauce slid delicately off the plate and onto David's shoulder, pants, shoes and Chris' leg).

As we were leaving, Chris said we should try to do it more often. Then, we both burst out laughing. But, that was before we hit the pet store where Ruth talked the ear off the lady trying to get our crickets and I had to bring all the kids in to try and figure out which filter we needed for Hopper's tank. In our little family trotted with yours truly leading the way, carrying David, stripped of his applesauce clothes and wrapped in a blanket, Grace following along and Ruth trying to carry Miss A. What a sight we must have made.
