Watching the Sap Run
After co-op today, we went to Amy and Craig's house to view the running of the sap. Not long ago, they visited some neighbors that tap their maple trees and Amy was inspired to tap her own trees and give a try to making syrup.

Amy let us all try some regular Log Cabin syrup (you know, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup syrup), then we tried some of the syrup that she made last week. She makes some pretty good syrup, I say. I'm intrigued and thinking next spring we need to head down to Grandma and Grandpa's house and try tapping some trees. :)
Here Ruth is sampling the sap dripping from the tree. It tastes like a sugar water.

Amy emptied one of her buckets while we were there. The kids were interested to see that the sap ran clear, almost like water.
