Homeschool, Week 1 Recap

School began the Tuesday after Labor Day. It was a short week, so we managed to cram 5 days of work into 4. Given that it was also our first week of school, every day was long, grueling and made me fall into bed exhausted each night. For the time being, we are not having co-op. That was my choice. I was just too burnt out from last year. We'll do something more low key, but not right now. So, we covered all our subjects. This year, the boys are joining us in their official capacity of being old enough to start school. So, each day is busy and packed full.

In history, we covered the Spanish domination of South America and their subsequent gain of extreme wealth, Mary Queen of Scots, and King James (of the KJV Bible fame).

In science, we did an introduction to the oceans, learning about the different parts of the oceans and the basic groupings of the animals living there. We worked on the first part of a long-term project: an ocean diorama. We painted the insides and top of our boxes blue and left them to dry.

The boys are busy learning more phonics and reading small words. Some days are great, other days are not so great and I have to teach through tears. Theirs, not mine. Well, maybe some of mine, too.
