Pumpkin Pie

Remember those pumpkins from the farm? Well, after days of sitting in my house, one of them succumbing to black spots and squish, we finally did something with them. I say "we" but I really mostly mean "I".

The pumpkins, in all their dirty splendor (well, except for Grace's that she already washed in the bathroom sink)

Giving those pumpkins a bath in a more respectable sink than the bathroom sink.

The guts, ready to be extracted

Ruth tried out a variety of tools for the job. In the end, what worked best was to wait for Mama to loosen the pith and seeds and then go from there.

The boys lent a hand, too
The end result was hours of work for a bit of pureed pumpkin. I'm so thankful that the kids and I can do this, but we don't have to do it. The seeds I saved and roasted with a little salt. I think Chris and the dog have eaten most of those, though. The kids weren't too crazy about them. I did make pies out of the pumpkin and it was declared by Grace to be "Delicious!!" so I suppose, in the end, it all worked out.
