Watching the Perseid Meteor Shower

On a Wednesday in mid-August, we packed the van with snacks, blankets, sweat shirts and chairs and headed off to midweek class at the hall. After class, we planned to set up camp in the parking lot (a bit farther out from the lights of town) to check out the Perseid Meteor showers. Now, I did some reading up on the MS and found out that the best viewing would be between 12 and 3am and since it happens just once a year, we made a big deal out of it. The kids all took long naps and were ready to go. We set up camp around 10:30 and saw a few meteors over the next few hours. According to my reading, at its peak, there would be around 60 meteors an hour. I'm not sure if we averaged quite that many, but it sure was cool. We loaded the kids up and got them home to bed around 1am. It was such a late night a really fun one.

And of course, I had to blind everyone with a few shots.
