The Finished Product
The porch and house are finished. Well, mostly. The guy came to finish up on Monday, but he sure wasn't careful in his cleanup or his application of paint and chinking. Our porch is speckled with drips of paint and chinking and our painting needs some touching up. But, on the whole, it's not too bad. I don't know if I'd go so far as to recommend him to anyone, though.

Now, we just have to work on the other shutters to make the house match, but we can do those on our own. Our garage door could use a little tlc, too, but I'm not sure if it will happen this year or not.
Before the chinking was applied, he cut foam pieces to fit between the logs. This provided the backing for the chinking which was applied with a caulking gun and then smoothed out.
And, the final shot of the finished product. Note Cutie Pie the cat trying to make her escape from the top floor. She has learned how to pull down the screens in the upstairs windows and then jump out on the porch roof. Up until now, she has been too scared to make the jump to the ground. The kids are supposed to keep the screens in the window bottoms, not tops, but well, they have some listening issues.
