Apps Mill, Brantford, Ontario
Last weekend, we took the kids to Brantford, ON for a Jr. CYC weekend. They all worked ahead of time on a workbook. It was a small study on the life of Abraham. The workbooks were to set the stage for the classes they would have while up in Ontario. They turned in the workbooks for grading and awarding of points that they could then "spend" in the bookstore.
We left Friday after the Lincoln presentation and arrived at our destination around 7:30. We stayed with a family in Brantford that we had not met before, so it was awkward to say the least. But, they were supremely welcoming and we had a wonderful stay. They also had three children-ages 11, 9, and 6. The girls got to bunk in with their 9 yr old daughter and the girls got along well.
Classes were on Saturday morning at the Apps Mill nature center. It was a nice facility, even if it was wall to wall kids while we were there. ;) The kids had a class in the morning, lunch, free time/store time, snacks, an afternoon class and then dinner. We went back to our hosts' house (they stayed to clean up) and got the kids showered and ready for Sunday and in bed before they got back. The boys were so tired they fell asleep immediately. The girls took a little longer to unwind, but in the end, they too, were asleep soon.
We had time Saturday evening to visit with our hosts as well as a few other people that dropped by. It was such a nice, refreshing time to unwind and socialize with other people (we just don't get much of that here).
Sunday we went to meeting in Brantford and then left right after for the drive home. We ate lunch as we drove and stopped for dinner and finally arrived home around 8:30. I hurried the kids into bed and settled in for some Masterpiece Theater with Sarah. A really great weekend.
