Learning to Write Poetry
In English, Ruth has been working on writing poetry. She did one in rhyme, then we moved on to shape poems. The shape poems were much more fun for her. We worked on one together, then Ruth did one on her own. The only rule for shape poetry is that it has to have a shape. Rhyming is optional.

Our joint one says, "Mine is blue and red is what I said as I held up a diamond shape that I began to tape. I let out the string, it began to fly up high in the sky." It was Ruth's idea to put the last three words out like a tail.
Then, I let Ruthie loose on her shape poem. "It runs and plays and it has spots it likes to play games and also it roars and growls. It sometimes pounces." I do remember that it was a wild cat, but I'm not sure if it was a specific one.
