The Story of Ping

The duck, that is. We read The Story of Ping a few weeks ago. We read it for five days in a row, ala Five in a Row (the literature curriculum). Although I didn't have the official manual for the book, we "winged" it, so to speak and put together a lapbook from Hands of a Child. I downloaded a file from HOAC and then printed out all the visuals and cut them out. Then, we read Ping and did activities about the story. We covered ducks, China and the Yangtze River in particular, as well as little tidbits about the story (eg. how many relatives did Ping have). Ruthie just loved doing the lapbook and she gladly shows anyone or anything that sits still long enough. Grace had fun, but was content to do much less and I ended up doing at least half of it. And David, well David didn't do much more than squeal every time Ping got a spank in the book, or we talked about the Wise-Eyed Boat on the yellow waters of the Yangtze River.
