The 3rd of July

Uh huh. We celebrate this little-known holiday. The 3rd of July. Ok. Not really. It was just a more convenient day/evening for a cookout and fireworks. We descended upon my poor family late. We had...um...some issues concerning napping: those who did not and kept awake those of us who wanted to (ie ME). Once that was resolved, we ended up being a tad bit (ok, almost an hour) late to the cookout. Whoops. But we were well-rested! After hotdogs/coneys/buns(in David's case) my Mom organized a treasure hunt using Bible verses. She had hidden things all over the grounds and the kids had to look up verses to find the next clue. They had a ton of fun and were very enthusiastic about the popsicles at the end. In fact, our little foster charge, who did not participate in the hunt, managed to score an extra Popsicle from my mother. We ended the evening with some loud and gorgeous fireworks that the kids found completely wonderful. They oohed and aahed and clapped enthusiastically and demanded, "Do that again!"

Hunting for clues

My long-suffering cousin, Briam, helping the kids work the hunt. heh heh...you didn't avoid the camera this time, Briam!
