Texas Trip Day 7-Thursday
Thursday dawned a bit overcast, but turned out to be a wonderful day. The temps hit the low 60's-very comfy for us northerners. Julie and I ran errands in the morning while the kids played at home with the dads. We fixed lunch when we got home and headed out for Julie's father-in-laws place to hunt for arrow heads and fossils. He had some great places for us to look. The kids had such a ball! We drove out into the fields a bit, then hiked up a hill where the best arrow head hunting was to be found.
Heading up the hill in search of arrow heads
The view from the top of the hill
David concentrating deeply on finding an arrow head. I had given him a piece of flint to carry so he knew what he was looking for.
Chris and the kids enjoying the view
I'm such a northerner. I loved photographing the cactus.
Julie and Eden. Well, most of Julie. I was really concentrating on Eden.
There was a nice breeze up there for flying kites, which the kids loved.
While waiting to fly a kite, Byron took a walk with me and we examined the rocks and dirt for any little treasures.
And, he finds an arrow head!
It was in nice shape and he was absolutely thrilled.
Eden looking cool-shortly before she fell into a cactus, poor kiddo.
Byron tries his hand at flying a kite
The boys stop for a snack before getting into some serious fossil hunting
Gideon and Grace tackle the pile of rocks
Even expert paleontologists need some fortification before continuing on with the hunt
David's first fossil. The first of many more to come. Stay tuned for a cataloging of said fossils.
David examines a piece of rock we gave him and offers up his "expert" opinion on whether or not there was a fossil in that rock
We saw a bunch of new lambs with their mamas
They were just so sweet.
The kids mugging it up for the camera
Gideon and Eden take a turn, too.
