The Remodeling of a School Room

Our schoolroom was basically not functional.  It has become, over the years, a dumping ground for papers, books, supplies, and all manner of household items.  School happened wherever we had the room (usually our keeping room table which meant piling everything on one end cleaning it off each night so we could sit down for dinner).  I was despairing of ever having a space that was truly functional, when Chris did a 20 second Google search and came up with a brilliant idea.  We would affix a table to the wall, install cabinets on our only usable wall, and bingo-instant schoolroom.  I was eager to get started, so we began to tear apart the room soon after.  I boxed everything up, moved us temporarily permanently to the keeping room for the rest of the school year, and proceeded to begin renovations on the schoolroom.

Old trim, color Puke Green (I'm sure that was it's official color name) and the new and improved dark brown

It took us months of work to get the room done.  Not because it was such a huge project or because it was so specialized, but mostly because our spring and summer was so stinking busy.  We began in April and finished up in mid-August.  Chris installed lights under the cabinets, a strip of electrical outlets at the top of the desk and fixed our old chairs so that the kids didn't fall out of them like Goldilocks in Baby Bear's chair.

Uh, my desk area.  I was too lazy to clean it up for a picture.  That's life.
