Jenkins' Ear

In history, we learned about a man named Jenkin's, who allegedly, lost his ear to a rogue Spanish captain.  Jenkins carried it around in a jar of alcohol for 8 years as proof of his misfortune.  We did a little experiment with liquids for preservation.  Because, of course, the first thing I thought when I read the story was, "Huh, I wonder if Jenkins should have kept his ear in something different than alcohol?"  So, we begin.  A nice piece of raw chicken to stand in for the kids' ears.  I didn't want to go all Van Gogh on them.  Each one got to mix a different solution to store our chicken in-well, except the person who got the control glass-you know, the one with nothing in it, but chicken (ew.).

And we have alcohol, salt water, sugar water and control

Looking nice.
So, we were supposed to leave the jars for 8 days and then open them outside to see what had happened.  It's been well over eight days and I'm afraid to open our control glass.  It's looking rather....gooey.  This must definitely wait for a nice day outside.
