David-isms
Sometimes that boy just says the funniest things and he doesn't even know why it's funny, ya know?
This evening, he ran to the calendar, thumbed through the pages and said, "Only 3 sheets until my birthday!"
This afternoon, when Chris got home from work, David ran up to him and said, "Daddy! Mama gave me the licker!" So, say that out loud. No, I was not passing Dave shots, but one might think that to hear him.
It was nice to have a little David humor after the long day we had. The kids worked to help me clean the house (hey it counts for "life skills" and "home ec" right?) We worked for several hours preparing for our company coming this weekend. It occurs to me that if I were to clean my house more often, it would not require a week of cleaning frenzy to make it passable clean for guests. This thought, of such intense brilliance, struck me as I was scrubbing the rust stains out of the tub. My shoulder muscles were burning when I thought, not only would my tub be shiny on a daily basis, but I would have killer arms.
We spent most of the day in the basement cleaning up the toy room and then cleaning and debugging the basement for our guests. I would mention what else I was ridding it of, but perhaps they will read this and become (understandably) concerned. I will, however, put a pair of old boots by the bed for late night critter whacking. teehee....
And that was a thought that entertained me all through the morning hours of keeping kids on track with their cleaning; our city house guest having to whack something furry in the middle of the night. I should not torment the poor girl that way. But, seriously, when you grow up in the country and live in the suburbs of a very tiny town with your very old house abutting a corn field, it's just a fact of life.
This comical thought sustained me through redirecting the girls one hundred and fifty-seven times back to their laundry. You would have thought they had to fold and put away the laundry for the entire state of Texas. Cry me a river. Cry.me.a.river. It also lifted my spirits when I separated the boys for 589th time as they bickered over some trivial item. "yes it" "no it isn't" "yes it is" "no it isn't"...."ENOUGH! Go scrub a toilet!"
