Blogging Again and Moving On...Literally

Frankly, I miss being able to share about the things we're doing and life in general. Social media platforms aren't really set up to easily share details. Especially the sorts of details that families might enjoy. And I miss the creativeness of writing. Most of all, I've left the Facebook world behind for the most part except for things like support groups. I found that I had a few hundred friends most of whom rarely, if ever, interacted with me in any meaningful way and one "friend" in particular who only interacted with my few and far between anti-Trump posts (and of course to chastise me for them).

A little over five years ago, when Chris was diagnosed with Parkinson's, at a rather young 50 years old, we knew that life wasn't going to play out the way we'd intended. The things we'd hoped for, after we'd raised our kids, weren't going to materialize like we'd planned. Big dreams of traveling were replaced with research on disability retirement (a very real possibility given Chris' young age and his current trajectory with Parkinson's), how to make a home as accessible as possible, and how will our family live after he can no longer work.

Just a squinch more than three years ago, we moved into a large, spacious home that seemed to fit the bill for future needs and we settled in. More recently, though, Covid quarantines began, and throughout that first year, I saw a decline in Chris. He moved slower, talked slower, thought slower. Tasks he's always done now take twice as long to accomplish some days. And the house that was supposed to make things better for us, has become our albatross. So, about six weeks ago, we started looking for a different house. It's taking a lot of patience and a willingness to let places pass us by lest we find ourselves moving into a new set of problems. We've put in offers on a few different places only to have them fall through for one reason or another.

If you aren't looking for a house, you may not realize the insanity of the market right now. But, it really is just that. Insane. Homes are selling mere days after hitting the market and some even on the first day. We've always encountered multiple offers on a house and each and every offer we've made has been above the asking price because of the competition. We're keeping busy, though, in packing up nonessentials for that mythical future move. We've going through our possessions, culling 5 car loads of donations and more overflowing trashcans than I can remember. We're scheduled to see yet another new to the market house tomorrow. Who knows....maybe this will be the one?
