Across the field, there used to be an old farmhouse. Local legend has it that the original builders of our house built it to live it when their kids were grown. Our house was given to one of their children and yet another house (across the street) was given to a daughter (I believe). A few weeks ago, a digger was brought in and we watched, over the next several weeks, as the house was slowly torn down. Much to our surprise and dismay, we saw that it was also a log home (but because it had been left to deteriorate, was not in a position to really be fixed up). It differed from ours, though, in the way it was constructed. It was very interesting given that the same people are alleged to have built both houses.

The house, having to be torn down, was unfortunate and a bit sad, but it was a great springboard for finding out a little more about the one we live in.
