Budding Artists
We have begun swimming lessons again. It's a grueling, tortuous time, each session consisting of 2, 4-day weeks of lessons. So, we head out each morning M-Th for two weeks in a row. Unless you have a death wish and sign up for 2 sessions, meaning you head out each morning M-Th for 4 weeks in a row. It seemed like a good idea way back in March when they sent out the sign up for it. But, I'm sure by this point, you are wondering just what does swimming lessons have to do with budding artists? Hang on. I'm almost there. You see, our first session began this past Monday. The kids are in different classes that also begin at different times. So, while Grace, David and Byron begin lessons at 9:15, Ruth's don't start until 9:30. Then, the first 3 are done at 10:05 and Ruth's continue on until 10:20. So, there is this time after the first lessons end and we are waiting for Ruth to finish. On Monday it was bad. The kids were bad. I thought about never again returning for swimming lessons. On Tuesday (oh wait! That was today!) I thought to bring a notebook for each kid and some pencils to pass the time. And pass the time they did. They warmed up with various doodles (as they are wont to do) and then got down to some serious sketching. Their medium? Pencil. Their subject? Penicillin. And E-Coli. It was bold. It was brilliant. It was hilarious.

First, we have Graci and "Mr. Laugh-y Pants". He is better known to the rest of us as Penicillin.
And next, we have David and his rendition of Penicillin fighting off E-Coli. Note the sword in Penicillin's...uh...hand (?). That was an added touch (a little later) to add a bit more drama to the sketch. If you ask me, E-Coli is hunkering down for the long haul and not taking Penicillin very seriously. Just look at that grin.
